everybody" ones for gothic promoters. Select a "Love Is Fleeting"
theme and you irritate the romantics. Go with hearts and bunnies,
and you lose the cynics, abandoned lovers, etc. So we compromised
and decided to call this weekend's edition of Midnight our "February
11 party." Here are the details...
Whether you're feeling bouncy or gloomy about V. Day, our three DJs--
request-friendly residents Phae and Liebchen, plus guest DJ Lost--
will get you out on the floor!
Lost--who specializes in a great mix of old school goth, industrial,
and '80s material--has been spinning in area clubs since the early
1990s, when he kicked off his DJ career working with the infamous
Mohawk Adam. Along the way he worked at 5th Column, Tracks, Roxy,
Nation, and Posers. Last year he came out of a temporary retirement
period to DJ at Midnight, and the overwhelmingly positive response
convinced us to keep bringing him back.
For those of you desperately searching to find something to impress
your sweetie, Midnight is definitely going to be the place to go this
weekend. Our vendor, Silver Dragon Studio
(www.silverdragonstudio.net) offers an excellent selection of high-
quality and reasonably-priced jewelry pieces and gothic collectibles
that's sure to please. So be sure to take a minute to look over
Thomas's wares. Keep in mind, too, that last year he opened a store
you can visit in Occoquan, VA.
We will, as always, have a selection of free cakes you can nibble
around the witching hour this Saturday, even though we've got only
one confirmed celebrant--the always delightful Jess Meyer. H.B. also
to Opalcat (wish you could be in D.C.!), DJ Medusa, Pixie, Krissy, DJ
Vampira, Maia, Kimberly, and Czar Peter!
Around the same time the pastry appears, keep your ears tuned to the
DJ booth, because Phae will be selecting the winners of this week's
drawing. Prizes include new CDs from Snog and Covenant, plus DJ
Ferret's Underground Club Mix # 1, and discs by the Sisters of Mercy
(appearing on March 7 at the 9:30 Club, for those of you who've been
hiding) and Lunascape. Fill out a slip on our literature table, pop
it into the nearby cauldron, and you're entered.
Earlybirds will, as always, get first crack at our tray of free
candy, have a chance to avoid the cover charge (our intitial 12
guests are admitted free each Saturday), and enjoy The Meeting
Place's great two-for-one drinks deal between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m.
If you're hungry, check with one of the bartenders to see a copy of
TMP's newly expanded menu (available from 9:00 until 2:00)--which
adds chicken wings and fries to the traditional selection of tasty
burgers and sandwiches. Remember, too, that we now serve Red Bull.
The weather gurus are muttering about a four-letter word that starts
with "s" being a possible issue. It's winter, and that's always a
possibility, alas. If it looks like there's a problem, we'll try to
mail the list by 6:00 p.m. on Saturday; and we'll also post something
on the Midnight LJ and myspace sites (for addresses to check, see the
bottom of this mailing). If you're in any doubt, feel free to call
The Meeting Place after 8:15 p.m. (202-293-7755).
We hope to see you all out this Saturday, of course; and no valentine
or card is required!
