hunt by the V.P. and friends on L Street--none of which we're
expecting btw--Midnight will be up and running as usual this
Saturday. That means you'll definitely want to make it out to The
Meeting Place. For the full story, read on...
Two of our request-friendly residents, Phae and London, will be on
hand on the 18th for your dancing pleasure. They'll be joined in the
booth by a Washington favorite, DJ KC. During his more than 27 years
in the business, KC has spun from Florida to New York and D.C. to Las
Vegas, with appearances abroad (Germany, Spain, Ukraine, and Russia)
as well. You may have caught him locally before at Tracks, Dream,
The Cellar, 5th Column, Lulu's, Coyote Ugly, or other venues far too
numerous to list here. He was also a resident last year at the
LONDON's Calling '80s party on U Street. KC has a great feel for the
music, and we're very pleased to have him back on board!
Jamile has been having some pregnancy-related problems; but our
faithful house tarot reader expects to be on hand this week, once
again providing insights from her expert reading of the cards.
Our hard-working Vendors Coordinator, Sasha, has booked two hot ones
for Saturday. Taking them alphabetically...
* Sadistic Leather (www.sadisticleather.com) is a BDSM scene lover's
delight, offering an excellent selection of collars, cuffs, corsets,
claws, and other goodies, as well as belts, tops, etc. If you're
interested in events of that sort, its proprietor Christian is also a
fount of knowledge well worth consulting.
* Weaving Roses (www.weavingroses.com) inevitably brings a remarkable
selection of both fine yarncraft and marvelous hand-made jewelry
pieces. In addition, Jessi Rose is always happy to handle special
orders. So if you see something that looks neat but you'd like done
just a bit differently, feel free to ask!
We understand that there are a few spoilsports out there who
criticize the fact we distribute free cake around the witching hour
each Saturday to our guests. Tough shit. We're doing it again this
week; and if they hate it too much, they can go elsewhere (as most of
them do anyway) or stay home and count their socks!
We'll be celebrating the birthdays of two of D.C.'s finest, DJs
Hellion and Medusa; so please wish both of them the best at some
point during the evening. H.B. also to Stacia, Archie, Aarti, Ted,
and Elisabeth, some of whom may be joining us, and to Derek's and
Emily's son James Carmine Schleicher, who won't, since this Saturday
marks his 1st b'day. In addition, we expect to welcome home our
former college coordinator, Adrienne (only for the night, alas).
Regardless of whether cake is or isn't your thing, make a point of
entering the weekly drawing. Just fill out one of the slips on our
literature table and place it in the cauldron before 12:00 to be
eligible. This week's prizes include new CDs from Snog, Covenant,
and DJ Ferret, plus discs from the Sisters of Mercy (playing March 7
at the 9:30 Club) and Lunascape. One entry per person, please!
Come out early if you can, since our first dozen guests each week pay
no cover, there's a tray of free candy (the spoilsports don't like
that either) on a table near the Back Hall, and The Meeting Place's
expert bartenders serve up a great two-for-one drinks deal between
9:00 and 10:00 p.m. Oh, and if you're hungry, ask one of the
bartenders for a copy of the new expanded menu (burgers, sandwiches,
wings, and fries are available from 9:00 until 2:00). Remember also
that we now serve Red Bull!
On March 15 a new local store that plans to specialize in
gothic/industrial, punk, metal, and techno music is expected to open
in Annandale, VA. For more info, and to keep informed about their
progress and plans, check out www.myspace.com/strangelandrecords
Our apologies again for closing last weekend. Unfortunately
the "snow emergency" declared as of 7:00 p.m. by the District made on-
street parking illegal virtually anywhere near the club. We've only
had that problem one other time in the more than three years we've
been open, and hope that last Saturday is the final time we'll have
to deal with "weather issues" for quite a while.
We're open on the 18th and we have a great lineup all around
planned. So come on down and join the party!
